Best pink netbooks – mini laptops with style

By Andrei Girbea - @ andreigirbea , updated on May 19, 2012

Today I’m going to approach a subject i haven’t touched before, because quite a couple of our readers asked me if i can point to any good pink netbooks they could find online. So, if you’re into such products, please keep reading the paragraphs below.

First, you have to know what are the criteria I used for the devices in here:

  • the gadgets had to be netbooks, as in 9 to 12 inch computers with Atom hardware, good battery life and decent performances (more on what is a netbook in here)
  • price is important, as netbooks should be affordable and cheap
  • my personal experience with the devices and the overall reviews from specialists and users for on forums and webstores were very important
  • and last but not least, the gadgets had to be available in pink

So, here are the 5 pink mini laptops i consider the best you could buy at this moment. This is not a top, but a list. As you’ll find out by reading the next lines, each model has its own particularities and pros/cons, thus according to your taste and needs, you will be able to choose from them the one that is closer to what you desire.

Asus 1001P pink – $290 – new PineTrail technology and stellar battery life

Although this is not a top, there’s a reason i placed the Asus 1001P in front of this list, as it is at the moment the best you can get if you’re looking for great performances and autonomy for an affordable price. Because, with a price tag of only $290 (that’s with a small discount), it is the cheapest pink netbook in here.

But, offering the Intel PineTrail N450 platform and battery life up to 11 hours, plus Wi-fi N and Windows 7 Starter, it’s also one of the best in terms of features. Plus, it really looks good with the pink glossy finish, although glossy surfaces are kind of a pain when facing fingerprints and scratches.

On the cons site, it only offers a standard flat-keys keyboard and the integrated webcam is not that great. But hey, remember that it only costs $290 and it’s an EEE PC from Asus (and this is the most famous brand in the field).

Toshiba Mini NB205 – reliable and with a  matte case

Toshiba Mni NB205 in silver and pink

Like you might know, i currently own a Toshiba NB205 (the black version). I had it for 15 months now and it works as it did the day i bought it, with no incident whatsoever. Base on that and other reviews available online, the NB205 is a very reliable device, one of the best in this field on the market actually.

It also comes with a matte case, so you won’t have to worry about smudges and dust marks and the 10 inch display is not that glossy as the one on the Asus devices, so can be used outside (not all of the time though). Plus, you get the combo between the metallic keyboard and wide touchpad only out-beat by the one on the new Toshiba NB305 (which is not yet available in pink, but I’ll update once it is)

Of course, this device is built on the older N280 Atom platform, but that shouldn’t bother you, as the new one only offers increased battery life and no real performance buffs. And speaking of battery life, the 6 Cell one inside this Toshiba gives around 7-9 hours of life on Windows 7, which is more than enough for me.

And there’s also the price aspect. When i bought my Toshiba NB205 I paid around 400 euros for it, now it is available from Amazon for only $299, and that’s quite a huge discount over its original list price. But hurry up, such a great deal won’t last for ever.

Pink Sony Vaio W + Free Shipping – the looks and the style

Of course, if you’re looking for a fancier 10 inch netbook that comes in a more vivid pink finish, the Sony Vaio W is the one for you. In terms of style and build quality it just out-beats all the other contenders. It also offers bigger storage space (250 GB) and a HD ready display with 1366 x 768 px resolution, which offers way crispier images. And there’s of course the already famous Vaio keyboard, one of the most comfortable and ergonomic ever found on a laptop.

However, inside you get the same old N280 platform like on the Toshiba above. That’s not really a problem, but the small battery that can only provide up to 6 hours of life is, when compared to the above.

And there’s the price matter. With a tag of $449 (with a 50 bucks discount), it is the most expensive in this list. But remember it is a Sony Vaio, part of an exclusive line known for quality in every aspect. And it is the cheapest of all the Vaios out there, so if you’re looking for a new pink mini Sony Vaio laptop with decent performances, this is the one for you.

Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 – the new fellow

Dell’s products are pretty popular in the US because they’re reliable, easily configurable and pretty much affordable. Plus, you can easily find accessories and spare parts for them in case something wrong happens.

Their new 10 inch line is now offered in a pink and black finish that i consider quite a looker. Plus, the entire unit is quite a deal, packing not just looks, but pretty capable features.

You get the new PineTrail hardware with 1 GB of RAM, 160 GB storage drive and Windows 7, plus a 6 Cell battery capable of around 7-8 hours of life.

Unfortunately, the device is quite bulky, thick (1.3 inch) and heavy (3.1 pounds) and these are not appreciated on a gadget that was supposed to be portable. Plus, with a price tag of $349, I don’t really see why you would buy one of these over the Asus or Toshiba above. Unless you’re a Dell fan or a sucker for the special form-factor it offers (which i for one really like)

Asus EEE PC 1008HA – $387 – the ultra-portable 10 incher

Last but not least is a device meant to be ultra-thin and portable, the Asus 1008HA Seashell EEE PC. It is also available in pink and weighing only 2.4 pounds and being only 1 inch thick, it is the most compact of the devices present here, thus making it perfect for carrying around in your shoulder bag.

Plus, since it’s an Asus, it is known for reliability and looks. Inside you get the older N280 Atom processor, 1 GB of memory and 160 GB storage, plus top notch connectivity (Wi-fi N and Bluetooth) and Windows 7 OS. However, keeping it so light meant only a 3 Cell battery could be included, that can only provide around 5-6 hours of life, possibly even less.

And if you consider this aspect and the pretty steep price ($387) when compared to the other pink mini laptops in this list, you might be tempted to head for one of the others. Still, if you want something fancier and feather-light, the 1008HA is definitely a good choice you won’t regret picking.

That’s about it. These are at the moment the best pink netbooks available online, all with great prices and good reviews, thus recommended.

Of course, in time there will be other new devices available in pink, that’s why i will update this post with references towards new models or similar articles. For instance, these ones:

  • if you need a pink laptop for young kids, you should check out more details about the 8.9 inch Asus Disney Netpal in here
  • see this post for a list of matching pink netbook accessories you can find for your devices

And remember, if you have any questions or anything to say about this list of cheap and good pink mini notebooks, don’t hesitate to post your comments.
